Guide for Bachelor’s in Hotel Management
Student can joined the BHM after completing +2 program no matter which subject they studied in their +2 carrier. In Nepal, there are many colleges that are providing the BHM programs for the students. So in this blog we are giving the basic knowledge of BHM programs.
BHM is a 4 years course. It required 3 years of college degree and 1 years of internship in a 4 or 5 star rated hotel. In this 4 years course students need to attain the theory classes for 3 years i.e. 6 semester of 6-6 months, where students are needed to give the exam of each semester to passed it.
In those 6 semesters, students are going to learn the basic of hospitality industries from their mentors in a college, where they get the theory knowledge as well as practical knowledge of the industries.
In Nepal, there are different college that provide the BHM programs affiliated by different universities, some colleges are affiliated by the Nepali university and some are affiliated by the different countries universities but, they all are approved by the Tribhuvan University.
For the Admission to the BHM colleges, the different colleges have their own rules to give admission to the students. Colleges that are affiliated by Tribhuvan University are required to give the CMAT exam as well as interview to select the students for the admission to their colleges. But some other university colleges are give the admission to the students by only taking the basic entrance exams
Different colleges offer different prices for the BHM program. The average fee cost of the BHM program in Nepal in around 6 lakhs to 11 lakhs according to the colleges and their given facilities.
College take the fee according to their practical classes and their theory classes. Some college have little bit more day of practical classes and some have less practical classes. But the colleges are always able to give students proper hospitality industry training.

Practical:
In the practical classes, students are able to learn about the different department of hotel like:Food production:
Food production is related to the kitchen department, where the experienced chef guided the students the learn the basic of how to make the food in a well standard with proper taste and garnish.
F & B service:
In F & B service, students are learn about how to served the food to the guests in a 5 star hotel with proper manner.Housekeeping:
housekeeping department is related to the cleaning and maintaining the rooms of the hotel, where students are able to learn it properly.Wine and Beverage service:
Wine and Beverage service provide basic of the cocktails and mocktails drinks. It also helps to get the knowledge of different types of drinks available in the world.
Front office :
In front office practical, students are learn about how to check in, and check-out in the hotel with guest handling process and the call receiving process and so on.Bakery:
Bakery production help to learn the basic of cakes, muffins, and so on.Barista:
In barista, we learn about the types of coffee, and different coffee making process .So, these are the basic practical that colleges are provided in BHM programs. Some colleges are also provide some extra activities like HACCP trainings.
Internship:
Different college have their own rules for the internship which is some college offer internship program in 3rd years i.e. 5th semester to 6th semester, where some colleges provide internship opportunity to the students in 4th years i.e. 7th semester and 8th semester. No matter which year but the students should complete the 1 year internship to get their Bachelor certificate.For the 1 years of the internship, some college provide the consultancy by them self to their students from where, the students can apply for the different countries for the internship but students can also apply from out source consultancy for the internship, but they need to provide the details of the consultancy that they want to apply and hotel they want to do their internship program. Both are eligible for the completing the internship program for the students.
For the internship program, around 1.5 lakh to 3 lakh are needed to apply in a golf countries but the price are high in other countries like USA and Australia. Students are not have a mandatory to done their internship in the other countries. They can also do their internship in any 5 star hotel in Nepal also.
The differences of doing internship in abroad and Nepal is the student are getting some basic salay in abroad according to the country they choose. But in the case of nepal, most of the hotels are not provided the basic salary for the internship program, only few hotels provided the salary for the internship.
